How do I bid at auction?

There are several ways to bid on properties at auction. Bidding at auction isn’t difficult, but bidding for the first time can be a little daunting. The exact method of bidding does depend on the type of auction however.

Bidding on a property whilst in the auction room
If the auction is taking place in-room (with an audience and a live auctioneer), you can bid in person. To bid in person, raise your hand clearly to attract the auctioneer’s attention and get your bid accepted when the auctioneer is at the value you wish to bid at.

Once they have seen you and taken your first bid, they will know to keep looking to see if you wish to bid again.

Bidding on a property during a livestream auction
For in-room and livestream auctions you can also bid online via the Auction House website. A live video of the auction will be played on screen alongside details of the current bid, next asking bid and an option to submit your bid.

How do I bid if I can't attend or watch the auction?
If you can’t attend or watch the auction, you can bid via the telephone or have the auctioneer bid on your behalf (proxy bid). When you register to bid you will be able to specify how you want to bid.

Bidding in a timed auction
If you are bidding in a timed auction you can either bid via the Auction House website or set a proxy bid where the system will bid on your behalf up to your maximum amount.

When bidding in a timed auction, you will be able to see what the current bid and next asking bid are, as well as a countdown of how long is left.
