Required ID to bid at a property auction

To be approved to bid, you need to provide valid photographic ID and proof of residency. If you are the successful bidder, the auction team will carry out electronic ID verification in order to meet the HMRC Anti-Money Laundering Regulations.

Acceptable documents for individuals wishing to bid at auction:

You must submit one document from each category. You cannot submit the same document for both categories.
For example, you cannot use your passport as photographic ID AND proof of residency.



Catgeory one: Photographic ID

- Current signed passport
- EU member state identity card
- Current photo card driving licence
- Armed Forces ID card
- Firearms or shotgun certificate



Category two: Proof of Residency

- Utility bill/statement (we don't accept phone bills) – dated within past 3 months - date must be visible
- Mortgage statement from a recognised lender – dated within past 3 months - date must be visible
- Bank, building society or credit union statement – dated within past 3 months - date must be visible
- Local council or housing association rent card
- Current UK / EU Drivers Licence (paper version)



Tips for submitting documents that are approved:

- Make sure the submitted documents are clear and all text is easy to read
- Ensure the full document is visible in the file you're submitting
- Phone bills are not accepted
- Selfies or pictures taken of yourself are not accepted. Proof of ID must be one of the types listed above
- Ensure you're submitting the correct information, don't upload the wrong file
- Your proof of residence must have the date visible and the date must be within 3 months of the auction



Common reasons that applications to bid are declined:

- Documents are the wrong type, invalid or out of date
- Uploaded photos are blurry or overly cropped
